ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – Zurich mean party-time next weekend, with the national First of August celebrations followed the day after by the city’s hugely popular Street Parade, a giant dance and techno fête.
The CFF/SBB rail company is adding 100 trains 2 August to carry the crowds. Extra trains will leave for Zurich during the afternoon and trains will run all night to carry people home, including to French-speaking Switzerland.
The company recommends buying the all-inclusive Street Parade Zurich City-Ticket, which covers the return trip plus all transport within the greater Zurich region, with the night travel supplement. The Street Parade Zurich HB ticket covers the return trip and the night supplement.
Anyone who doesn’t have the special Street Parade tickets can buy the CHF5 supplement for night travel, which covers the extra fee on buses, trams and trains, but the CFF suggests getting it as soon as you arrive in Zurich to avoid long lines at ticket distributors. You can also buy it later, closer to the time you’re leaving, by SMS (text: NZ at 988).
