LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – Prepare for another full year of roadworks above the Chateau de Chillon, with lower speed limits for the duration.
The new state of the art fiber optics concrete is being poured on the Chillon viaduct on the A9 autoroute this week. But the complexity of the work has added a year to the initial plan for strengthening the bridge.
The road is the main connection between Geneva, Vaud and ski resorts in canton Valais.
The concrete system, developed at the EPFL in Lausanne, will help engineers better track the life of the concrete and any weaknesses that develop.
20 Minutes carries a video interview (French) with the project manager, showing the new system.
