I left a lengthy comment to a post, “The World is Squared: Episode 1, Switzerland”, after someone requested some recommendations for red wines he can buy at the Coop.
The best Swiss wines are not found there – the cut taken by Coop doesn’t make it worthwhile for a lot of small but very good wineries. I can’t say strongly enough how important it is to visit Swiss wineries and to sample their wines at fairs like the upcoming Vinea Swiss Wines Fair.
Reminder: the official launch of my book on Swiss wines, Vineglorious!, is 6 September at the Swiss Wines Fair – stop by to buy a copy and have it signed! You’ll save CHF6 in handling and postage :-).
But the Coop supermarket chain does have a good collection of very drinkable wines for sensible prices and we all undoubtedly pick up wine there. Here’s the article on Switzerland and my list of suggested wines in the comment.
Their 20% annual late summer offer ends today (31 August), in the online shop. Their notes on wines are available in English, a rarity in Switzerland.
