I’ll be heading off to Winterthur in early December for an event that features a dinner open to the public, so if you’re as keen as I am to learn more about Galician food and wine from Spain, this is the time to register for what promises to be an extraordinary evening. And if you don’t yet know Winterthur, it’s a lovely town for a weekend of playing tourist.
Spain’s Galicia region, in the northwest of the country, generally makes one think of of Albariños and Rias Baixas wines, but I’m looking forward to what the region calls “its breathtaking reds”. Six DOCs for wines include the Ribeira Sacra region, with its long history of Mencia fine red wines. As the NY Times notes in an article about the region, the wines are fresh and medium-bodied, sure to please “anyone tired of blockbuster wines.”
