“Cachoterie Merlot”, Cave Beetschen

04/11/2015 by Ellen Wallace Leave a Comment

Voluptuous is the first word that comes to mind. Fruity, oak fully integrated, round and luscious. Just right for lifting the spirits on these gray Lake Geneva days as the fog and early winter start to surround us. I bought this some time back and cellared it – highly recommend doing this to let it […]

“Le Protagoniste” 2013

07/09/2015 by Ellen Wallace Leave a Comment

Domaine de la Ville de Morges Delightfully easy to drink, very good value for money, wonderful nose. I had it with simple tomato sauce pasta, would be curious to try it with a mild curry dish given the cloves and cardamom notes in the wine.

Humagne Rouge, St Saphorin, Vaud

20/04/2015 by Ellen Wallace Leave a Comment

A surprise, this one, with most Humagne Rouge from its home canton, Valais. St Saphorin, which sits on the shores of Lake Geneva, has a fine Humagne Rouge, from the Cave du Château de Glérolles, a fine old  castle that juts out into the lake. We drank the 2013 with a fun and comforting Saturday […]

Œil de Perdrix 2013

10/04/2015 by Ellen Wallace Leave a Comment

The home of Oeil de Perdrix wine is Neuchâtel, just north of here. This northern stretch of Canton Vaud was long considered a backwater for wine but in recent years great strides have been made, and this wine is an award winner. It’s good value for money. Dry, very aromatic nose of strawberries and as […]
