BASEL, SWITZERLAND – The fiscal disputes between Switzerland and France aren’t limited to individuals’ taxes – the two countries have been bickering over how Basel Airport should be taxed, and Wednesday local media reported that talks have ended without a solution. Easyjet, which is the largest company operating out of the airport, will not develop its operations there without a clearer situation, according to Basler Zeitung.
France argues that the airport should be taxed on the basis of physical territory, while Switzerland argues that the current agreement, in place for more than 60 years, should prevail. If French taxes apply, costs to travellers would increase significantly, according to Le Temps.
