Basel testing cross-border trams

30/09/2014 by Ellen Wallace

BASEL, SWITZERLAND – Basel began testing a cross-border tram, line number 8 from Kleinhüningen to Weil am Rhein in Germany, Monday 29 September, reports the Railway Gazette.

“An initial two weeks of technical tests for all tram types in the BVB fleet will lead up to German BOStrab certification in mid-October, overseen by Stuttgart-based TAB. This will clear the way for driver training and other commissioning ahead of the start of passenger service on December 14,” reports the industry newsletter, which notes that Basel travelers will be offered a free day’s travel to test the new line.
