Paris, France and Champagne, Vaud, Switzerland (20 Minutes, Fre) – The makers of Vaud’s flutes, buttery salty aperitif snacks that carry the name of the village where they are manufactured, has been told by a court in Paris to shut down its champagne.ch web site and to stop using "Champagne" on its snacks. The court ruled that the company could cause consumer confusion, leaving buyers to think that the snacks are made by the drinkers of the famous French beverage. Worse, noted the court, the snacks, which are produced industrially, could undermine the reputation of the wines, famed throughout the world as "an exceptional wine." Ed. note: the site was still live Thursday morning and the 731 residents of the Vaud village were considering protests, after an initial one where a tractor with a French flag and magnum of bubbly was used to pull down the village entrance sign, according to 20 Minutes. The village lost an earlier battle to use the name Champagne for its wines. Background, Fre, Pierre Thomas and swissinfo, Fre
