20 months of renovations end for airport 4-star
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The Crowne Plaza Hotel this week officially unveiled the results of a 20-month and CHF40 million investment programme that saw two floors added. The original 306 rooms and suites have been expanded to include 60 new “Club” rooms and suites on the new floors that overlook the city.
The hotel, with a new total of 366 rooms and suites is now Switzerland’s third largest, after the Starling and Kempinski in Geneva, with 496 rooms/suites and 412, respectively.
Alain Carlier of CLM Architect in Geneva oversaw the structural work, which created glass and steel floors at the top characterized by large bay windows that give good luminosity. The interior design was handled by Celia Chu of Taiwan, who also did the recent re-design work at the Intercontinental.
The Crowne Plaza, 500 metres from both Palexpo and the airport in Geneva, was built in 1977. It was originally called the Penta, then the Ramada Park.
It was renamed the Crowne Plaza Geneva in 2011 by its new owner, the Hotel Intercontinental Group.
The Crowne Plaza in Zurich and the Intercontinental in Geneva are also part of the group.
The renovation work in Geneva has given the lobby, the reception and the Seventy5 restaurant a contemporary look, all the older rooms were renovated and the business services have been upgraded.
The hotel, with its 1,000m2 conference centre that includes 18 modular rooms that can handle up to 1,200 people, is one of the city’s key hotels for business, and it has been working closely with the city to align itself with Geneva’s development plans.
