Foreground, a fire raced up the mountainside above Leuk in 2003, destroying the forest in less than 30 minutes, and it has yet to grow back. The vineyards just below this area were spared, and it is home now to Pinot Noir among other grapes. The road to the resort of Leukerbad runs next to this.
