Extreme weather, extreme drops

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Canton Ticino is having record rainfall, but if you’re traveling there you might want to reflect on the need for winter tires.

The Ticino side of the Gotthard tunnel had plenty of snow Monday 17 November.

I’d been photographing the extraordinary waterfalls around from Lugano to Airolo that give the mountainsides a striped look at the moment.

A little later, sitting in the queue while I waited for the light to turn red – its lets 3-5 vehicles at a time enter the tunnel – I shot this little video and reflected on how it would have been wiser to return home a bit earlier.

Weather forecast for Ticino: sunshine! Four or five straight days of badly needed sunshine with no rain.
