Fine particles pollution: Ticino goes slow, Lake Geneva region takes precautions

26/02/2008 by Ellen Wallace

Ticino and Lake Geneva region, Switzerland (TSR, Fre) – Canton Ticino on Monday mandated slower speeds on the A2 autoroute to reduce fine particles pollution, which tend to rise to dangerous levels during warm, sunny winter weather. The Lake Geneva region, which was on alert at the end of last week, has seen its levels drop with a change in the weather, but cantonal health authorities remind the public to be vigilant. Among the recommendations:

  • use public transport or if driving, reduce speeds
  • turn down heating systems
  • don’t build fires
