Geneva drivers, prepare for tougher stance

13/10/2015 by Ellen Wallace

international_geneva_montblanc_flags_160611GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Geneva is cracking down on drivers who don’t follow the rules, with fines going up sharply and police promising to hand out more tickets. At the same time, a heated debate is underway over whether or not to charge parking fees for motorcycles.

Your muffler doesn’t work properly? The fine could go up from CHF100 to 500, reports the Tribune de Genève. Riding a “vehicle without a motor” (think of your bicycle) while drunk? Fine goes up from CHF200 to 320. You didn’t yield the right of way? Up from CHF120 to 320.

Fines also up for excessive noise

Drivers aren’t the only ones targeted by the tougher new approach to fines: if you make too much noise in your apartment or you’re playing music too loudly the fine is jumping from CHF100 to 1,000 in some cases.
