Preliminary study for underground extension passes 1st hurdle
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The partners responsible for reviewing preliminary studies for an underground extension of the Geneva Cornavin main station Saturday tentatively gave the green light to a CHF1.652 billion plan, +/- 30%.
Details of the plan will be published at the end of July. A feasibility study for the plan, which would see the extension in 2025, was carried out two years ago. In February 2014 voters approved the extension idea as part of the overall 2025 Swiss rail development programme.
The plan will be analyzed and verified technically as well as financially between now and autumn, when the final version will be published.
