GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Seniors and cyclists share the same road space, and those on bikes need to take more care around elderly people. That’s the message police in Geneva want to get out, during a campaign 21, 23 and 25 September.
Cantonal and city police plus police in Carouge are out in greater than usual numbers this week, checking that cyclists are in line with the law. They will be looking, in particular, for cyclists who do not observe traffic lights, who use sidewalks and thus put elderly pedestrians in danger and who in general are not following traffic rules. They will also be checking bicycles to make sure they conform to regulations.
The campaign is being carried out mainly in the city centre, main artery roads and in Carouge.
This is the second such campaign in 2015, aimed at reducing the number of accidents involving bicycles and elderly pedestrians.
