Lausanne, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The director of Lausanne’s Metro underground system has told Swiss television TSR that a third metro line between the central train station and Blécherette, at the top of the hilly city, is under consideration. The new line would go from the Place du Flon through the St-Roch district, the Palais de Beaulieu convention hall area to Pontaise, ending at Blécherette, home to a small airport.
The success of Lausanne’s M2 Metro underground, which opened less than a year ago and quickly became popular, plus the problems posed by hills in the direction of the Blécherette make a new underground line look like a better option than trams.
