Imprisoned by good taste: lunch with police

03/10/2013 by Ellen Wallace

Chasselas from Domaine de la Baudelière, Aigle, a winner – read the details tomorrow on Events.GenevaLunch.com

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND / EDITOR’S NOTEPAD – The “Semaine du goût” (taste week) at the end of September left many a good meal under our belts, but my personal favourite of the week deserves a special mention and a few photos.

I had lunch with the Vaud cantonal police, a guest at their VIP table – the others had the kind of titles you only see in good police novels or movies. The chef who keeps them well fueled throughout the year whipped up a special meal.

Before I share the menu, let me share some good news.

For the past six years I’ve had people regularly ask me to publish more information about the police and safety in their own backyard, and GenevaLunch is now doing so, safety precautions and information from police for Geneva and Vaud and sometimes more generally, such as the tips from the British Consulate for travelers to Switzerland.

Safety, resources, wine tips & picks: Events.GenevaLunch.com

Be sure to pay a visit to our new sister site, Events.GenevaLunch.com to find out what’s on in the Lake Geneva region. Better yet, subscribe to the daily email to receive our 10 latest events, resources (you can search for all resources under “categories), featured event and our newest safety tip.

We created the new site in June and the number of readers  has grown steadily each week.

I am arguably the most knowledgeable writer in English about Swiss wines, and as of this week you’ll also find my wine picks and wine tips among the resources, scheduled to run 2-3 times a week.

Here’s how the police celebrated Taste Week; table decor was oranges, avocats and fruit de la passion. It’s not just the chef who has a sense of humour – the police and guests such as the cantonal prosecutor spent part of lunch coming up with yet more colourful names for the dishes.
