GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The Ascension weekend begins this evening, with many people in Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe taking a four-day weekend.
Expect heavy traffic on the roads, so avoid peak travel times, suggests the Swiss Federal Highway Office.
The CFF rail company is putting on extra trains to handle the increase in passengers.
And expect crowds for the many activities taking place. Two big events this weekend are the Valais winery open days in the canton that is Switzerland’s largest wine producer. For more information see Ellen’s Wine World.
Geneva is hosting the GE200 antique car parade Saturday 31 May and 20,000 people are expected to watch it. Much of the city centre will be closed to traffic.
The parade starts at 14:30 at the Parc des Bastions, the Place de Neuve, Corraterie, rues Basses, rue Pierre-Fatio, quai Gustave-Ador, Port-Noir and parc des Eaux-Vives. It ends at 18:00.
Sunshine but slightly chilly this weekend so head out with a windbreaker and suncream!
