Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Good news for the Lake Geneva region: the CFF rail company will be adding more trains on the Bern-Zurich and Lausanne-Geneva lines, starting 14 December when the new 2009 schedule goes into effect, with 5.5% more kilometres of rail travel on offer.
Many of the Intercity trains will have more cars as part of the expanded offer and trains will be added late at night and early in the morning for some parts of the system. The CFF says it will also offer a combined restaurant-business compartment-rest car (no noise) service.
Passenger traffic grew 5.5% in 2007, putting pressure on the system, already close to capacity. The most popular form of special offer, the half-price reduction card, is now carried by nearly 30% of the Swiss population.
