Organic wine awards (taste them 30 June)

22/06/2015 by Ellen Wallace Leave a Comment

Winners of the Swiss organic (bio) wines awards have been named. Top winners:

Best organic white wine: Solaris 2014 | Bioweingut Sitenrain | Meggen | Lucerne
Best organic red wine: Iselisberg Cuvée Noir 2013 | Bioweingut Karin und Roland Lenz | Uesslingen | Thurgovie
Swiss Organic Winemaker of the Year: Bioweingut Karin und Roland Lenz | Uesslingen | Thurgovie

The complete list is on the blog Roman du Vin (French). The winemaker of the year is the cellar with the highest average score for whites and reds among the participants.

The competition is organized by Vinum wine magazine and Bio Suisse. Vinum selected 30 of the best from among some 150 entries; a panel of 50 judges, wine professionals and non-professionals then tasted and voted on the 30, in Zurich, in May.

Wines from eastern Switzerland performed particularly well, with only two from Vaud and one from Geneva among the top 30.

The wines can be tasted Tuesday 30 June at the Carlton Hotel in Lausanne; CHF10 if you don’t have a Vinum subscription. Registration required.
