Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland (TSR, Fre and Ticinonline, It and Corriere del Ticino, It) – Forget the sunny south, at least for the past weekend, where heavy rains starting Friday night flooded much of Lugano and Bellinzona. The rains are continuing Monday morning, causing concern that homes may need to be evacuated. TSR reports that according to MeteoSwiss the amount of rain that fell over the weekend in Ticino is more than the average for July. Millions of francs in damages are being reported. The CFF is experiencing delays linked to the Zurich-St Gotthard line, due to a mudslide. Over the weekend the rail company suffered other weather-related delays, including an hour-long interruption Sunday evening on the Geneva-Lausanne route after wires were affected in Coppet and again in Morges.
MeteoSwiss forecast for the Lake Geneva region: gloom and clouds gradually giving way to clearer skies during the day Monday.
