GENEVA, SWITZERLAND / AMONG THE VINES – More than 120 restaurants have joined a new wine & dine project to encourage the public to discover, or re-discover Swiss wines, especially those from areas beyond their own corner of the country. The first Swiss Wine Week will run from 28 November to 6 December, throughout Switzerland.
The concept is a particularly nice one for people who would like to try a new wine without buying a full bottle of it: each participating restaurant must offer their clients, during the special week, three Swiss Wine & Dine pairings.
Each food and wine pairing must include one glass of Swiss wine from a different wine production region.
Prices will vary depending on the type of restaurant, but the two groups behind the week, Swiss Wine Promotion and the Vinea Organization, have worked to see that it includes a range of restaurants, with a range of prices.
The goal, say the organizers, is to develop a concept of “a new national event whose goal is to bring together the world of Swiss wines and the restaurant industry, at the same time encouraging exchanges between different wine regions in the country”.
Clients will have a chance to win magnificent Swiss wine cartons.
If your favourite local auberge or cafe isn’t yet taking part, suggest that they do; registration is still open for restaurants.
