Thursday is the big day: car show runs 5-15 March
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The Geneva Motor Show is about to begin, with 700,000 people expected to head for Palexpo in Geneva – but crowds are also heading for Lausanne to the home and garden show, Habitat Jardin, 7-12 March, and soon to Basel for the Baselworld watch and jewelry show 19-26 March. ‘Tis the season for commercial fairs!
Volkswagen Passat wins Car of the Year award
Motor journalists voted yesterday for the car of the year, and the winner is the Volkswagen Passat – the third time in six years the German company has won the award. The car beat out BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, Citroën C4 Cactus, Ford Mondeo, Mercedes-Benz C Class, Nissan Qashqai and Renault Twingo.
Some 9,000 cars will be presented by 220 exhibitors this year.
Drivers in the area should be aware that traffic is always heavier during the Motor Show, which runs from 5 to 15 March. The organization works closely with the CFF and local public transport company TPG to encourage visitors to leave their cars at home and take trains, trams and buses, to reduce traffic congestion.
