GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The ski resorts’ messages were near-euphoric Friday afternoon: the snow is here and it just keeps coming, with more on the way.

Given the poor snow cover for the Christmas holidays, their enthusiasm for today’s snowfall, coming just at the start of schools’ February breaks, is understandable.

Geneva schools began their week-long break this evening and other cantons will follow suit.

In the short term, the snow – ice in particular – was less welcome by drivers, with traffic throughout the region slowed down by scores of minor accidents.
