BERN, SWITZERLAND – The land famous for its cows and cheese is letting down the team: milk consumption is falling. Per person consumption fell by 22 percent from 200 to 2012, says the Federal Agriculture Office, from 86.1 to 67.1 kg during the period.

The Swiss are also drinking more lower fat milk, sales of which increased by 2 percent, while whole milk sales fell by 6.9 percent.

In the first eight months of 2013 Switzerland produced nearly 2.3 million tons of raw milk.
