LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND (update 07:55)- Expect major tailbacks on the A1 Morges-Lausanne Thursday, with the right lane and emergency lane closed. A number of fire and police vehicles will remain parked in the emergency lane during the day. A fire broke out around 16:00 Wednesday at the Thévenaz Leduc depot next to the autoroute (shortly before the road splits for Ouchy on the left and Crissier/Neuchatel on the right). Firefighters worked through the night, with several vehicles parked at the company on fire, making it difficult to bring the blaze under control.
The fire is now under control but still burning, say canton Vaud police. Thévenaz Leduc is closed until further notice.
Smoke in the area is a problem.
Route de la Pierre is closed to traffic and a detour has been set up for trucks in the industrial zone.
Residents of Chavannes-près-Renens, Crissier et Ecublens are being asked to keep their windows closed as a precaution and an emergency medical centre has been set up the Protection civile shelter at the Collège du Croset.
No cars are allowed in the vicinity of the fire and several firefighters remain at the scene.
