An odd bit of news in from Drinks Business: the UK is set to become the largest importer of Syrian wine and, according to the man behind this, the wines will soon be arriving in Switzerland. The wines are from Johnny R Saadé Holdings, which include Syria’s only international wine brand, Domaine de Bargylus, according to the industry newsletter which, oddly, makes no reference at all to the continuing conflict in Syria and its impact on the tiny national wine industry.
