Watch those slippery roads! 22 accidents in Bern, Vaud police seek witnesses

19/01/2009 by Ellen Wallace

Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Snow has been bucketing down throughout much of Switzerland, with snow falling steadily throughout the Alps Sunday and picking up again early Monday morning. Canton Bern had 22 accidents between 17:00 and 05:00, reports 20 Minutes (Fre), with one woman losing her life in Thunstetten and three other people injured in other accidents.

Police in Vaud are asking for witnesses to Friday’s serious accident on the lake road near Rivaz: two vehicles collided but no one was injured and then a third vehicle hit one of the drivers who was crossing the road on foot. The driver was airlifted to the CHUV university hospitals with serious injuries.

Police in Vaud 15 January began a safety campaign to remind people to drive only once they have completely cleared their windows, mirrors and lights of snow, dirt and fog.
