Watch your phone in airport security

11/01/2016 by Ellen Wallace

cointrin_airport_geneva2009GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A lesson to all travelers to watch your belongings (and be careful not to pick up your neighbour’s!): a 62-year-old Italian man was in police custody after Geneva airport police found a cell phone that didn’t belong to him, in his jacket pocket.

The victim was checking in for a flight to London late Sunday afternoon and went through the security check – only to discover that the cell phone was missing on the other side of the security area. Police identified the man who had gone through security just ahead of the victim, and his flight, then headed to the boarding area where he was asked several times if he was carrying anything that didn’t belong to him.

Finally, say police, he feigned surprise and produced the missing phone from his pocket. The phone was returned to its owner, who made the London flight, and the Italian man was turned over to the public prosecutor’s office.
