Wild, windy and for some, snowy Christmas

23/12/2013 by Ellen Wallace

Switzerland’s holiday weather forecast

Aminona near Crans-Montana Monday afternoon: sunny, warm, little snow – but that’s all about to end, at 06:00 Tuesday, say the weather forecasters

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Batten down the hatches, especially if you’re in the mountains, for wintry is about to sweep in some wild storms.

Alpine areas are receiving level 3 warnings of gales from 130-160kph. Eastern Valais is expected to see snowfalls of from 20cm to 1 metre. Resorts might welcome the fresh snow given the thin cover even at high altitudes, but not initially, with winds too high to keep lifts open.

Forecast from MeteoSwiss, with rain for Geneva and temperatures of 4-9C for Christmas Day but 0-2C with snow above 1000-1,400 depending on the region.
