GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The Vaud winery open days this weekend, with 300 wineries taking part and several villages offering food and drink, sadly won’t be seeing too many sunburned clients, with the weather forecast a relatively dismal mostly cloudy with rain throughout the country.
Happily, wineries cater to customers who prefer to stay dry while they wet their whistles.
The brightest news from the national weather service is that on Saturday temperatures will rise to 20C, if briefly, in parts of canton Valais, although highs elsewhere will be 14-15C.
In addition to learning more about Swiss wines (note, next weekend it’s Geneva’s wineries open day 25 May and Ticino’s turn 25-26 May), our new sister site Events.GenevaLunch.com offers you a host of what’s on suggestions for the weekend. Consider some of the many flea markets, or a football match in Lausanne or a touch of tango!
The Red Cross Museum is holding an open house this weekend to celebrate with the public the newly renovated museum, following several months of work where the museum was closed.
Tips if you aren’t yet familiar with the events site
Note that the home page lists events for the next couple weeks, with this week’s highlighted, but you can search current and future events by cateogury or by date, as well as your choice of locations. If you live in Bern or Zug, try “other” locations, and if you have guests coming and want to see what major events in Switzerland are coming up, try the category “Swiss-wide”.
Reminder: it’s a 3-day weekend for most of Switzerland – Whit/Pentecost
Most Swiss workers will be taking Monday off and offices will generally be closed 20 May for Whit Monday.
