Two Swiss political refugees refused entry to Morocco

Geneva, Switzerland (20 Minutes, Fre) – Two people who are political refugees in Renens, Switzerland are reported by 20 Minutes, which interviewed them, to have been turned back at the airport in Marrakesh, Morocco after one of them was searched.

Swiss drivers’ license suspensions rise – more speeding, distractions, less drink

Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The number of drivers’ licenses suspended rose in Switzerland in 2008, up to 74,326, an increase of 2,275 compared to 2007. Suspensions ranged from one to three months in 70% of cases to indefinite suspensions for 15% of the licenses taken by the police.

Deadline looms for 2009 autoroute stickers on cars

Updated 10:50  Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The last day you can get away with driving on Swiss autoroutes with a 2008 sticker is Saturday, 31 January. The new obligatory autoroute tax stickers, purple with “09” in yellow, are on sale for CHF40 at Swiss post offices. They are valid until 31 January 2010.
