CFF and transport ministry disagree over train fines

30/03/2009 by Ellen Wallace

Zurich, Switzerland (20 Minutes/ats , Fre) – A passenger fined CHF80 for sitting in a first-class car with only a second-class ticket complained to the Swiss federal transport ministry that the fine was too high.

The ministry agreed, saying that the CFF is charged with setting appropriate fines and carrying the wrong ticket is not as serious as riding the train without a ticket, for which the fine is also CHF80.

The CFF says it does not agree and it is likely to take the case to the Swiss federal tribunal.
