GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Switzerland’s six wine regions each have winery open days, spread out over several weekends. Geneva and Ticino had theirs last weekend, pulling in good crowds. This weekend Valais has its turn, taking advantage of the long holiday weekend to run for three days. Next weekend it’s Vaud’s turn.
The basic principle is the same everywhere: you pay for your glass, which you can take home at the end, and you use it as a passport or ticket for wine at all participating wineries.
Valais has a number of communes where wineries have banded together to make visits easier and your best guide to these as well as the canton as a whole is the downloadable brochure on the Vins du Valais web site. It gives opening hours and details about all participating wineries.
The weather forecast is good, if slightly on the chilly side. Mainly sunshine, some overcast skies and highs from 18-21C.
[…] And expect crowds for the many activities taking place. Two big events this weekend are the Valais winery open days in the canton that is Switzerland’s largest wine producer. For more information see Ellen’s Wine World. […]
