Swiss garner wealth of medals at world wine show

In a series of blind-tastings of 9,200 wines over three days, by 350 judges, where no one knew the country of origin of any of the wines, Switzerland was the fifth most bemedalled country at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, a remarkable feat.

Swiss wines with a touch of Scotland! Today’s wines are both Pinot Noirs, nothing pale or timid about either of them, one from Givrins near Geneva and the other from the Swiss Alps.

St Joseph and Côte Rôtie, steeped in Syrah

I was visiting wineries in the heart of the Côte Rôtie appellation, one of 28 AOCs in France’s Rhone Valley region. It is arguably the most exclusive of the AOCs, with some of the most refined and often most expensive wines.
